Objective: In this study, it was aimed to adapt Fear and Behavioral Intentions (FABI) Scale, developed by Wolf in the purpose of assessing fear and behavioral intentions of students against mental patients, into the Turkish and to evaluate adapted scale’s reliability and validity. Methods: This is a methodological research, in which the validity and reliability of the FABI were tested. The scale is comprised of 10 items in 5 point Likert type. The study group consist of 250 nursing students. In the adaptation of scale, content validity was evaluated by expert opinions Kendall concordance analysis and content validity index tests. Construct validity of the scale was examined with confir-matory factor analysis (CFA), and Cronbach’s alfa reliability coefficient and item-total correlation with Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used to evaluate reliability. The mean scores of test-retest evaluations were compared with paired sample t test and correlation between test-retest scores examined by Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Findings: Content validity index scores of items were between 0.83-1.00 points and content validity was evaluated as adequate. In consequence of CFA, it was found that χ2/sd=2.73, GFI=0.94, AGFI=0.89, CFI=0.93, SRMR=0.07 and RMSEA=0.08 and model pointed good/perfect concordance out. It was determined that item-total correlation coefficients of the scale were between 0.215-0.640 and all of these coefficients were statistically significant. The test-retest correlation coefficient of FABI scale was found 0.824. A high correlation coefficient indicates time consistency of the scale. is time invariant and consistent. Conclusion: According to the results, FABI scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used in Turkish. It is proposed that, use the scale in the purpose of evaluation of the fear and behavior intentions of the healthcare professionals towards individuals with mental illness and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for healthcare professionals to reduce negative attitudes towards this cases.
