Objective:This prospective intervention study is conducted in between November 2016 and October 2018 as a part of Psychosocial Support Program for Breast Cancer Patients by Ankara Mamak Municipality. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of psychodrama groups on self-compassion and distress in breast cancer patients. Meth-ods: The study group was created among breast cancer patients diagnosed at least one year ago, by the announce-ment at primary care health centers of Mamak Municipality. The patients were participated at psychodrama therapy groups 3 hours a day and once in a week for 21 weeks. Self-Compassion Scale and Distress Thermometer were applied for three measurements; first at the beginning, second at the end of the group sessions and third at the 18th month after the sessions were completed. Results: Following the psychodrama groups, the levels of distress thermometer obviously decreased and the low levels were protected until the 18 months after the end of the inter-vention at the patients without any additional stressor. Self-compassion scale results were about the same success. Especially the levels of self-kindness subscale increased when the social isolation feelings decrease. Discussion: This study shows that psychodrama has a supportive positive effect on self-compassion and on decreasing distress levels in breast cancer patients.
