Despite the scarcity of evidence on the safety and efficacy of psychotropic drugs in pediatric population, especially in the long term, several epidemiological studies have reported an in- crease in their prescription rates. This increase is especially evident for stimulants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. In this presen- tation presents general principles for the use of psychopharmacology as well as describes the major groups of psychotropic medications used to treat mental disorders in children and ado- lescents.

Pediatrik hasta grubunda psikotropik ilaçların güvenilirliği ve etkinliği açısından bilgilerin kısıtlı- lığına karşın, birçok epidemiyolojik çalışmada kullanımlarının arttığına ilişkin bildirimler bulun- maktadır. Bu artışın özellikle psikostimulanlarla ve serotonin gerialım inhibitörleri ile ilgili olduğu söylenebilir. Bu sunumda çocuk ve ergenlerde psikofarmakolojinin genel ilkelerinden ve ruhsal bozuklukların tedavisinde kullanılan ana ilaç gruplarından söz edilecektir
