Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the contribution of the films used in psychiatric nursing education to the theoretical and clinical practice areas. Methods: The study was carried out in qualitative and quantitative types with the aim of determining the effect of 12 films in psychiatric nursing education. A total of 102 senior nursing students were participated in the study and the data were collected by two-part data collection form created by researchers. In the first part, the evaluation of the film watching and discussion was scored and in the second part, the contribution to the theory, clinical practice and personal development of the films was asked in writing. Quantitative data were evaluated with descriptive statistics in the computer. The analysis of qualitative data was evaluated with content analyses. Results: As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of films in psychiatric nursing education contributed five subfields in terms of learning, awareness, development, change and motivation, and this contribution led to learning at the cognitive, emotional and behavioral level. Conclusion: The use of films was found effective in psychiatric nursing education. However, long-term effects of the films need to be monitored for permanent learning can be identified.
