Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the health educational needs of the patients with schizophrenia and their relatives.
Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 80 patients with schizophrenia, and 80 relatives. Data was collected with the Identity Data Form and the Form of Assessment of Health Educational Needs.
Results: The health educational needs of the patients and their relatives were studied under six sub-title. These are defined as the dimensions of the most important health educational needs of the patients and their relatives, general information about schizophrenia, coping with the symptoms of schizophrenia, communication and social relations. According to the results of statistical analyses, there is a significant relationship between the health educational needs of the patients and their employment status, income level, the location they inhabited the longest. The relationship between health educational needs of the relatives, and their marital status, the degree of relationship, level of education, income level, status of membership of a group or an association, the status of having been educated about schizophrenia is found significant as well.
Conclusion: Personal interests and the needs of the patients and their relatives should be defined and educational programs should be prepared regarding those needs and interests; in order to enable the patients and their relatives with schizophrenia benefit from health education maximally. Şizofreni hastalarının ve yakınlarının sağlık eğitimi gereksinimleri
Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, şizofreni hastalarının ve yakınlarının sağlık eğitimi gereksinimlerini belirlemektir.
Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemini 80 şizofreni hastası ve 80 hasta yakını oluşturmuştur. Veriler, Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu ve Sağlık Eğitimi Gereksinimleri Değerlendirme Formu ile toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Hasta ve hasta yakınlarının sağlık eğitimi gereksinimleri 6 alt boyutta incelenmiş olup, sağlık eğitimine en fazla gereksinim duyulan boyutların şizofreni hakkında genel bilgiler, şizofreni belirtileri ile baş etme, iletişim ve sosyal ilişkiler olduğu belirlenmiştir. İstatistiksel analiz sonuçlarına göre, hastaların sağlık eğitimi gereksinimlerinin çalışma durumu, gelir düzeyi ve en uzun süre yaşanılan yerleşim birimine göre; hasta yakınlarının sağlık eğitimi gereksinimlerinin ise medeni duruma, yakınlık derecesine, eğitim durumuna, gelir düzeyine, dernek veya grup üyesi olma durumuna ve şizofreniyle ilgili eğitim alma durumuna göre anlamlı düzeyde farklılık gösterdiği saptanmıştır.
Tartışma: Şizofreni hastalarının ve yakınlarının verilen sağlık eğitiminden en yüksek düzeyde yarar görebilmesi için, özel ilgi ve gereksinimleri belirlenmeli ve eğitim programları bu doğrultuda hazırlanmalıdır. (Anadolu Psikiyatri Dergisi 2006; 7:33-42)
